Terms of use

Plain terms for a free utility. Using the site means you accept them.

1. What we provide

WorldClock.free displays the current time, time-zone rules, daylight-saving transitions and computed sunrise and sunset times for places around the world. It is provided free of charge, with no account required, and with no warranty of any kind.

2. Accuracy — read this one

We take correctness seriously: time-zone rules come from the IANA time zone database, place data from GeoNames, and sun times from the NOAA solar equations. We update the time-zone database regularly and treat a wrong daylight-saving date as a serious defect.

Even so, do not use this site as the sole basis for anything with a real deadline — a flight, a court filing, a market open, a medication schedule, a legal notice period. Governments change time-zone rules at short notice and sometimes with no notice at all; a database update can lag a political decision by days. Sunrise and sunset are calculated for a sea-level horizon and can differ by minutes in mountainous terrain. Confirm anything consequential with the operator, court, exchange or authority involved.

3. No warranty, no liability

The site is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, and we are not liable for any loss — missed connections, missed meetings, lost business, lost data or anything else — arising from use of the site or from being unable to use it.

4. Your dashboard and your content

The board you build, including any labels you write, is stored in your own browser. We do not hold it, cannot recover it, and are not responsible for losing it — clearing your browser data will delete it. Use a share link as your own backup if it matters to you. Do not put anything confidential into a label: a share link puts labels in a URL, and URLs travel.

5. Acceptable use

Use the site normally, at human speed. Do not scrape it at a rate that degrades it for other people, do not attempt to break into it, and do not resell access to it. Reasonable automated use — a script that checks a page occasionally — is fine, and we would rather you did that than have no option. A proper free time API for programmatic use lives on our sibling site utctime.app.

6. Data licences and attribution

Place data comes from GeoNames and is licensed CC BY 4.0; that attribution appears in our footer and must be preserved in any reuse. Time-zone rules come from the IANA time zone database, which is in the public domain. Our own page design, copy and code are ours.

7. Links to other sites

We link out to a small number of sites, mainly data sources. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content.

8. Changes

We may revise these terms. The current version is always the one on this page, with the date below. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws applicable at our place of business, and the courts there have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.

10. Contact

Questions, or something on the site that is wrong: get in touch.
